Aisi Shang joined the Department of Political and Social Change in 2014. She has a MA in Anthropology from Xiamen University, China, where she conducted research on lineage organization in southeast China and livelihood strategies of the Blang ethnic groups in southwest China. The topic of her current research concerns gender relations in disaster events, particular at how gender shapes people’s responses to drought in rural Yunnan, southwest China.

Prior to pursing her study at ANU, Aisi spent a year working for a community care-centre which provided services to migrant women.
