Evan Hynd is a PhD candidate who began at the Department of Political and Social Change in 2011. His background is in Political Science, International Relations, and Indonesian Studies. His research topic for his dissertation concerns various aspects of socio-political life in Timor-Leste (East Timor). More specially, he is interested in examining the operation of its electoral system, the behaviour of political parties, the role and nature of campaign narratives, and the nexus between political elites, business and development strategies. He has spent time observing and analysing the presidential and parliamentary elections during 2012. This research was funded by an Australian Endeavour Award. Evan has a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Asian Studies (Specialist Indonesian) and an Honours degree in International Relations from the ANU.
