Kate Macfarlane joined the Department of Political and Social Change in August 2015 and is researching girl soldiers in South Asian conflicts. She has a Bachelor of Asian Studies (First Class Honours) and Arts from the Australian National University, with majors in Mandarin Chinese and International Relations. Kate spent a number of years at the ANU providing research and administrative support on a number of large ARC research grants, including work with Professor John Braithwaite on the long-term project ‘Peacebuilding Compared’ at the Regulatory Institutions Network (RegNet). She has also worked in Beijing, China in the NGO development sector. Kate’s research interests include children and armed conflict, human security, gender and South Asia.
