Emeritus Professor Maev O’Collins is an honorary visiting fellow in the Department of Political and Social Change, Australian National University. She obtained her BA from the University of Melbourne, and a Doctorate of Social Welfare from Columbia University New York. She taught sociology and social work at the University of Papua New Guinea and was appointed professor of the Department of Anthropology and Sociology in 1979. She was awarded an MBE in the Papua New Guinea honours list in 1987 and the title of Professor Emeritus when she retired in 1989. Her publications include Social Development in Papua New Guinea: 1972-1990: Searching for Solutions in a Changing World, 1993, An Uneasy Relationship: Norfolk Island and the Commonwealth of Australi_a, 2002, and _Last of the Lands We Know Recollections of the Life and Times of Maev O’Collins - a joint publication with Dr Les Coleman, 2013.
