Nikmatullah is currently a PIES (Partnership in Islamic Education Scheme) student, taking a one year program at the Department of Politics and Social Change at ANU. Her interest is in the study of Islamic Sciences, especially Hadith (sayings and traditions of the Prophet). She has been doing her PhD at State Islamic University of Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta since 2014. Her thesis is on “Living Hadith of Marriage in the Sasak Tradition of Lombok, Eastern Indonesia” and examines how the Islamic community of Lombok uses and practises hadith in their daily life. This thesis focuses on marriage hadith that are delivered by local Islamic leaders (Tuan Guru). Nikmatullah completed her Bachelor degree at State Islamic Institute of Sunan Kalijaga, Yogyakarta, and her Masters degree at State Islamic University in Jakarta. She lecturers at the State Islamic University of Mataram Lombok. Nikmatullah’s academic interests include Hadith and Islamic local culture, Islam and Gender, interfaith and multicultural issues.
