Polina’s current research interests center around the anthropology of affect and lived Buddhism in women’s lives, in contemporary Myanmar. She has been working in Myanmar and its border regions since 2009 and has conducted ethnographic research on displacement, women and the law, and women’s agency and livelihoods in rural Myanmar. Polina was born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, and emigrated to Europe in 1991. Before joining the ANU, she studied sociocultural anthropology at the University of Vienna in Austria and at the Sorbonne University in Paris, France.
