Ronald Holmes obtained his Bachelor of Arts in History-Political Science at De La Salle University-Manila and his Master of Arts in Political Science from the University of the Philippines-Diliman. He has been with the academe since 1985 as a member of the faculty of Political Science at De La Salle University-Manila. He is also President of the social science research organization, Pulse Asia Research Inc. He commenced his PhD in July 2013 and is working on a dissertation that examines the persistence of particularistic spending, the practice of pork barrelling, in the Philippines, at the national and local government levels. Employing frameworks from political economy and comparative politics, the dissertation hopes to recommend measures that will prompt more programmatic or developmental spending.
